Flora's Lida Rose June 19, 1990-May 15, 2017
Flora's Lida Rose
Our matriarch, Flora's Lida Rose, a flaxen beauty, who foaled 10 exceptionally athletic and versatile Morgans for us, passed away due to complications of pneumonia this spring. She was comfortable and at home.
Standing barely 14 hands herself, Rose was the untamed queen of the prairie, never broken to ride or drive and permitting human handling insofar as absolutely necessary or when she was wasn't feeling well or wanted something. Rose's sire was a 16h tall Orcland Leader bred stallion. She is a granddaughter of Maple Blaze on her dam's side, a very successful sire of breeding and performance horses here in the Midwest.
She was an exceptional broodmore in that she would reproduce the sire but each of her foals shared commonqualities of size, bone, soundness, and trainability, funnily enough given her disdain for humans.
Rose's son, Oldfield Sailor, by Boomer, was the first of her offspring to enter the show ring. He was a 16h bay, who was a Western pleasure champion for Robin Pelham, and went on to success at the second level of dressage for her.
Oldfield Touch and Go, by a Fairfield Fortune son, Kennan's Supreme Air, is a 16h winner in dressage on the Morgan A circuit and in open competition against the warmbloods, now winning for and loved by Marcia and Kirsten Hickman in Ohio.

Rose's last two foals were full brothers by one of the leading Morgan sires, Issues 'N Answers: Oldfield Diplomat, "Matthew," a 16h bay gelding foaled in 2009 and Oldfield Envoy, "Indy," a dark bay gelding foaled in 2010. Matthew was sold as a four year old at the Hylee auction in 2013 and Indy found a new home as a future sport horse with Leslie Beyer in 2013. We look forward to great things from these beautiful and athletic geldings.
Oldfield Diplomat (Issues N Answers x Flora's Lida Rose)Rose had four daughters, all of whom are on the farm with us. Two of her daughters were flaxen chestnuts by Boomer. Her first daughter, Rosie's Fleur de Lis ("Lily") was a Midwest Distance Driving Championship paired with her own Morab son, RL Ranger. Lily is also the dam of the successful Morab mare, RL Rosalie. We are happy that Lily has come home to us for her retirement where she remains a solid riding and driving mare. Her other daugher by Boomer is Nola, our bomb-proof, kid-safe, friend-safe riding, driving, and squirrel hunting babysitter.
Camellia (by UVM Coming Attraction) and Glory (by Kennan's Supreme Air) are part of our broomare herd, and both produced exceptional foals by Hylee Galaxy's Wild Irish in 2015.

The exceptional athletic ability and trainability that Rose passes to her offspring carries forward through her daughters to the next generation of fillies and colts who are athletic and game, including Ranger and Rosalie, Oldfield Wild Iris, a 2013 filly who was Top Ten in Three Year Old Western Pleasure in OKC in 2016, now owned and loved by Amanda Sweno, Oldfield Noble Prize, a 2015 gelding who followed in his big sister's hoofprints until he died tragically in a barn fire in 2021, and Oldfield Dark Matter, a gorgeous black 2015 gelding now owned by Jim and Nicole Riggs. Oldfield Andromeda, a full sister to Dark Matter, carries on Rose's line on the dam side. Of Thee I Sing carries on both Rose's and Boomer's lines on the sire's side.
